In music, a song is a composition that contains vocal parts ("lyrics") that are performed ("sung"), commonly accompanied by musical instruments, exception in the case of a cappella songs. The lyrics of songs are typically of a poetic, rhyming nature, although they may be religious verses or free prose.

Songs are typically for a solo singer, though they may also be in the form of a duet, trio, or larger ensemble involving more voices. See part song. (Works with more than one voice to a part, however, are considered choral.) Songs can be broadly divided into many different forms, depending on the criteria used. One division is between "art songs", "pop songs", and "folk songs". Other common methods of classification are by purpose (sacred vs secular), by style (dance, ballad, Lied, etc.), or by time of origin (Renaissance, Contemporary, etc.).

A song is a piece of music for accompanied or unaccompanied voice or voices or, "the act or art of singing," but the term is generally not used for large vocal forms including opera and oratorio. However, the term is, "often found in various figurative and transferred sense (e.g. for the lyrical second subject of a sonata...)." The word "song" has the same etymological root as the verb "to sing" and the OED defines the word to mean "that which is sung".

What song should we play when our little boy walks down the aisle at our wedding?
Q. My fiance and I have a little boy who just turned a year old. When we get married in a few months we are going to have someone walk him down the aisle to us after we exchange vows & rings. I am looking for a song to play as he is walking down to us. I can't really seem to find anything that fits. Our wedding is not going to be very traditional and we are pretty open to anything. A lot of our songs are instrumental versions of very old country and classic rock songs. Thank you for your suggestions!

What song is good for one person to sing and another person to dance to?
Q. My friend and I have to do a perfromance in school. She is going to sing. I am going to dance to her song. The problem is we can't find a song that is right. She has a deep, strong voice and I prefer to dance to slowerish songs. Ideas that didn't work but we liked were: Prodigal-onerepublic, run or footprints in the sand-leona lewis. Any ideas of what we could do?

What is a good song for a colorguard solo/ensemble that is less than 3 minutes long?
Q. I plan on doing a solo/ensemble this year for colorguard. i need a good song to spin to and it has to be 3 minutes or less but more than 90 seconds. before i can decide what equipment to use or if i want to get another person involved, i need a song. if you can suggest more than one song, that would be fantastic. also- there cannot be any profanity or suggestive language in the song. and preferably no rap or hip-hop.

A song is a relatively short musical composition. Colloquially, song is often used to refer any music composition, even those without vocals.
