What book has changed your life the most? How did it affect your way of life and your perspectives?
Q. Many people claim that books have changed their lives. For you, what was the book that you fully read and understood and noticed that it had an effect on your life? What book made you want to change for the better? What book made you realize the meaning of life? What book changed you as a whole?

A. I don't think there is a master narrative that told me how and why to live. However, books seem to help me on my way wherever I go. For instance, Rebbeca by Daphne DuMaurier made me love the classics. Sula by Toni Morrison made me appreciate my mother. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen made me understand my father. A love for the Harry Potter series gave me something in common with my sister. My husband initiated our first conversation with me at a cafe because I was reading The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, and he had enjoyed the book previously. However, if you want a book that will change your life without any outside factors, Siddhartha is a good one. Herman Hesse also wrote a book called Demian that I think is… [cont.]

A. Flow by Mihaly C, its also describes, similar social/psychological phenomenons that are not so obvious to society. I think blink takes a look at how we make split second decisions and the significance of them. Flow capitalizes on the experience of optimal performance for all aspects of one's life. Both authors, i guess, try to pinpoint stategies that can improve the lives of those living in our fast paced Western society.

What book made you change your opinion on what good literature was?
Q. Everyone has a "favourite" book, and then one day, another book comes along and just blows the other one out of the water, and you have a problem, because now your favourite book isnt so good anymore. Which book was THAT book for you?
Asked by me + books + music = happy - Wed May 20 17:18:47 2009 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The Noughts and Crossed Sequence by Malorie Black man. This book didn't exactly ruin my favourite book for me, because I didn't have a favourite book when I read it. But what this book has done is change the whole point of story telling for me. When I was younger I always thought writing a good piece of literature was done my using lots of fancy words that no one knows the meaning of and giving your characters amazing names, abilities and basically making them some kind of 'superhuman'. But after I read Noughts and Crosses I realised that everyday words are just as effective as fancy ones. And characters should be normal, because we can relate to them more. It's the plot that should be complex, with suspense that keeps you on the edge… [cont.]

A. For a young adult/teen Meg Cabot's young adult books. She is the best author. Also best selling. She wrote tons of books including the Princess Diaries (Movies based on her books), Mediator (upcoming movie), 1-800-Missing (TV show based on her books), All-American Girl (up coming movie), Jinx, Airhead and more. She has adult books too, so you can grow with her. If you want more info or any of the authors website's email me. You should use the website, What Should I read Next. What book would you recommend as an introductory text for learning Spanish?
Q. I plan to learn Spanish, all by myself, and I am looking for books suitable for that. Of course I will try to use multimedia such as TV and newspapers to practice, but I need a book that will present Spanish (and that assumes I am not at all familiar with the language) in a systematic way, with a lot of examples and practice. I would prefer also a book with a lot of vocab word lists and grammar rules. Thank You :)

A. I love Realidades as a Spanish teacher. If you get the teacher's edition, it tells you the answers as well as what part of learning Spanish is taking place in each section (communication, connections, community, culture, or comparisons). Also, it has great online supplements for free. Also, conjuguemos.com is a great supplement for that book as well but it is unrelated. Check amazon.com and ebay for the latest in their workbooks and listening activities for cheap.

A. Get a copy of "The New Breed" by Gary Chester and make that book your bible. It uses a revolutionary system that will elevate your playing to the next level. You should be able to find this book at any music store or online at amazon.com or musiciansfriend.com At first, this book seems to have little practical use, but it will build your independence, reading, grooving, timekeeping and concentration skills like no other book on the market. Get this book before anything else, but I have a couple of other books you may want to check out. "Future Sounds" by David Garibaldi. This book is a method for playing linear funk in styles of Tower of Power and some Herbie Hancock songs. Of you have no interest in funk music, then pass this one… [cont.]

What book series will make a great christmas present for my mum?
Q. She has read and loved the true blood series, twilight series, and vampire diaries. Though these are about vampires, she really loves books about doomed love like Wuthering Heights, and is a HUGE Agatha Christie fan who has all her books and enjoys some crime. What book series do you think she will like?

A. Been a while since I read that particular book, but I remember really enjoying the chapter with Lavinia Nebbs and the murderer, The Lonely One. Very suspenseful. Also, I really recommend that you really work to appreciate the quality of the writing as you read. Bradbury wrote some really amazing sentences in that book. I still remember ..."she was cool as mint ice cream..." what a great simile!

What are some good chapter books for an upper elementary book club?
Q. I'd like chapter books that are in paperback and are age-appropriate for 3rd-6th graders. Cussing and sexual content should be kept to a minimum if at all. Classics are probably out of the question b/c I don't want to step on the toes of teachers. So far I've got The Secret Apartment, The Landry News, The War with Grandpa, and The Watsons Go to Birmingham. If you're a middle schooler who has some books you really like(d), I'd love your opinion. Same thing for parents and book lovers in general. :) Thanks! Thanks for the suggestions so far. I've thought about series books as many of you have mentioned, but these are books kids read already. I'd like for the books to be ones they might not normally select on their own.
